Breaking News: Suge Knight Arrested

Suge Knight has been arrested in Las Vegas. He was booked on Assault and Drug Charges. After he allegedly hit his girlfriend, she grabbed the wheel and attempted to get away. He later was taken into custody while standing over her body with a knife. After searching his vehicle, the police found ecstasy and hydrocodone (purple drank).

Dame Dash...yet again

Stride Rite Corp. has reacquired the rights to the Pro-Keds brand from financially struggling hip-hop mogul Damon Dash.

The change for the iconic, 60-year-old shoe comes a week after Dash, who once boasted that he never wears the same socks twice, reportedly may lose two of his properties to foreclosure.

Lexington-based Stride Rite insisted Dash’s financial woes had nothing to do with the rebranding.

"It was just a matter of timing,” Stride Rite spokeswoman Debra Fernandes said yesterday. “We just wanted a new direction.”

Pro-Keds was launched in 1949 as a performance athletic shoe. By the 1970s, the round-toed sneaker was synonymous with some of the biggest names in professional sports - JoJo White and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar endorsed them.

The shoe also enjoyed a cult-like status in New York City’s early hip-hop community.

In 2004, Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, purchased Pro-Keds’ licensing rights from Stride Rite for an undisclosed amount.

The next year Dash left Roc-A-Fella, and since then several of his ventures have suffered. His reality TV show, “Ultimate Hustler,” lasted only one season, and his record label, Damon Dash Music Group, was shuttered.

Last week, New York newspapers reported that Dash and his wife, Rachel Roy, owe $7.3 million in payments on their mortgages for two Manhattan apartments.

Stride Rite - owned by Collective Brands Inc. of Topeka, Kan. - plans to kick off the new Pro-Keds line in November. Classic styles such as the Royal and Court King will be updated with new materials and colors. It also will launch limited-edition lines in a few months.

Jay-Z Sells 40/40 Club

Rap star Jay-Z and his business partners have officially announced the sale of the 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount, AllHipHop.com has confirmed.

The 24,000 square foot sports bar, which is located in The Palazzo and Casino, will no longer operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is for the lease and not the rights to the name.

"The sale is a great business decision, we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo ," Jay-Z told AllHipHop.com in a statement released today (August 27).

Over the next year, Jay-Z and his business partners will open 40/40 sports bars in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau.

The Las Vegas 40/40 Club was opened in December of 2007.

Dr. Dre's Son Passes

Andre Young Jr., the son of rapper/producer Dr. Dre, was found dead in his Woodland Hills, Calif., home on Saturday (Aug. 23), according to Dr. Dre's representative. He was 20 years old.

An unresponsive Young was discovered in his bed by his mother on Saturday at around 10:30 A.M. Paramedics were called to the scene, but Young was pronounced dead after their efforts to revive him. His mother told police he'd been out the night before, but returned home Saturday at around 5:30 A.M.

A cause of death has not been announced, pending completion of toxicology tests which could take four to six weeks.

So, Dame Dash isn't the only one in financial trouble! Jermaine Dupri recently closed his Dupri Cafe located in Atlanta. Workers showed up to work and found a note posted that the business was closed. In addition, the employees took their checks to deposit and there is no money in the business account. Dame Dash to wave goodbye to two properties...

Roc-A-Fella Records company co-founder Damon Dash and his wife are in jeopardy of losing two of their Manhattan apartments after apparently failing to pay their hefty mortgages.

The bank holding the mortgages says in a court filing Dash and Rachel Roy owe $7.3 million on the properties and it has begun foreclosure proceedings.

Eastern Savings Bank says Dash and Roy were supposed to make monthly payments of $78,500.

Efforts to contact Dash's lawyer and publicist by phone and e-mail have been unsuccessful.

Dash is the estranged business partner of rapper Jay-Z.
